Beat The Streets – Friday, May 21st [4:00–7:00 pm]

Since we are a community based organization, a big part of my job as the Executive Director of DayBreak is to build relationships with other community leaders and build partnerships with other organizations that serve Lincoln Heights. Obviously, one of those organizations is the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) www.mpdc.dc.gov. My first day on the job, I met Julia Irving, the Outreach Coordinator for the 6th police district (6D). Julia is a spunky, “whatever it takes” kind of person that is dedicated to serving the people of 6D. She works tirelessly to reach beyond the scope of criminal justice to impacting children, youth and adults, preventing crime, and improving individuals’ lives.

This Friday, May 21st, Julia is spearheading an event in Lincoln Heights called “Beat the Streets”. This community event aims to engage youth from various communities in a pro-social, entertaining environment to highlight similarities and encourage positive interactions. Social Service Providers specific to the needs of the community will be available disseminating information and answering questions. Local high school bands and MPD’s band will perform.

DayBreak is partnering with MPD to assist in making this event happen. They will be using our facility along with Samaritan’s Feet (www.samaritansfeet.org) to provide new shoes and socks to over 300 children in the community.

We need your help! MPD has asked us to provide volunteers for the event. We need 20 – 30 people to help with logistics of the shoe distribution as well as help with some of the children’s activities that will be going on during the event.

Please contact Becky Weeks at Rebecca.weeks@mcleanbible.org if you can help. Volunteers will need to arrive around 3:30pm. The event ends at 7:00pm.

Thanks for considering helping us as we impact Lincoln Heights with the message of Jesus Christ!
