It’s 9:30am. The house smells of freshly brewed coffee, buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. A knock on the front door is heard. When opened, hugs and laughter are exchanged between staff and parents as they arrive to the house.
It’s 9:45am. A prayer of blessing is given for the food. People then began to fill their plates, eat, talk, and laugh.
It’s 10am. Tim grabs everyone’s attention. He welcomes the parents and begins to give a Bible study lesson. All eyes and ears are attentive as the truth of God’s Word comes alive and as people began to ask questions and understand the truth about Jesus Christ.
It’s 10:15am. Prayer requests of both staff and parents are shared. It’s time for popcorn prayer. People around the room pray and Tim closes. Afterwards, there is a little more chit chat and laughter, and for some, more food. And then goodbyes and “see you next breakfast” echoes are heard as parents began to depart.
Yes friends. We as staff are privileged to serve the parents whose children are enrolled in our After School Program. Every other Wednesday, the above scenario occurs. We as staff prepare breakfast and serve the parents. It has been amazing to see how God has answered prayer and used these times as a tool for us to get to know the parents and share the love of Christ with them. We are truly becoming more like family.
At our last breakfast, one of our parents suggested that they make breakfast for the last breakfast of this month. He rallied everyone together and so began a discussion about who was to bring what. It was so great to see them want to take part and be excited about it. I must say, I’m anxiously awaiting May 19. I know for sure there will be quite a spread coupled with great fun and fellowship!
