Summer Camp: Week 2 highlights!

Week 2 of summer camp was a success! As a staff, God has confirmed that the theme of peacemaking is so fitting as the kids are often faced with situations in which they have to choose to be a peacemaker or a peacebreaker. It’s been encouraging to see those kids who are choosing to keep the peace and who are also encouraging their peers to be peacemakers.

During week 2, the 3rd-5th graders went on a field trip to the Discovery Theater. It has wonderful, interactive performances and over the last few years, it has become a field trip that we ensure is on the summer schedule for each group.

The kids loved seeing Christylez Bacon, the Human Beatbox, as he’s called, tell stories using different instruments and oral percussion. He engaged the audience, was very friendly and even jumped in for a group picture!

At the end of each day, different play options are available for the kids that allow them to do things like play board games, throw the football or simply use their imagination. This week, one of the days including fun with play-doh while another day children got to make their own structure using popsicle sticks. It’s so much fun to see the kids simply have fun and work so intently on their own little creation. We are thankful for the amazing space at Aiton Elementary that allows for us to do a host of activities with the children.
